My name is Aidan McAvoy and I have just turned 3 years old. I had Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) surgery in St Louis Children’s Hospital, Missouri, America on December, 6th 2011. Please read my story prior to my surgery.
Through the kindness and generosity of my family, friends, local businesses and members of the public we managed to raise over £40,000 which covered the cost of my SDR surgery. Since my operation I have been working really hard on my physiotherapy to make everyone who was kind enough to help me really proud of me.
My Surgeon, Dr Park, is really happy with my progress and has told my Mummy and Daddy that if I continue with his plan of care that my mobility will reach 95% over the next few years. This means I will be able to start school the same as every other boy or girl. How cool is that! My pre operation mobility was just 61%.
Dr Park's care plan involves daily intensive physiotherapy. He has also advised my Mummy and Daddy that my Achilles heel (heel cords) are too short and therefore need lengthened. Dr Park says that if we follow his advice and I undergo further surgery it will improve my walking pattern enormously.

My SDR check-up appointment with Dr Park is scheduled for March 2013 in St Louis Children’s Hospital, Missouri. While I am in America Dr Park wants to carry out my heel cord surgery and this is where I need your help. To enable me to get the surgery I require I need to raise a further £12,000 to cover the cost of my operation. The surgery is minor and only requires me to be in hospital for two days and it will be the last operation I will need to complete my treatment.
Therefore, please kindly make a donation or help in any way you can so that I can make it possible to achieve my goal.
Thanks for visiting my website and for all your continued help and support.
